you can build the remote with parts from radio shack. stranded wire, momentary switch and the jack is all the parts you need. a solder gun and solder will complete your needs. this is a very easy project, and cheap! you can make the wire as long or short as you like. make two! total cost of parts: $10 (or there about).

Clark,
Just a note, if you fit your lens shade on the outside of your lens, it will be 60mm.

I didn't know you could put a lens shade on the outside, but I'm guessing it just slides on (*not* screw on) which is worth noting.

Yep, it just slips over the end. It's made by Canon. It has a tiny screw which tightens a band on the inside of the shade. Probably still available...My camera looks pretty cool with the shade on! Serious too! - Chris

Hey Clark,
you can get any of these from any photo store. Most are not only compatable with other super8 cameras but sill cameras as well.
For the lens shade and filters, just check the size of your lens (my Canon 1014E is 58mm) and get the kind that are thread mounted. There are probably 100 in Ebay, just try a search with the thread size and whatever else you're looking for (ie: "58mm filter").
As for the remote cable, the Canons use the eletric type (as opposed to some cables that have a wire that runs through and physically punches the camera).
Good luck,
Scott
